The map of Umbria & borders of Tuscany

You can enjoy the serenity of Podere Macchione, alone in the countryside on a hilltop with panoramic views of Lago Montepulciano and the iconic Valdichiana Valley, but have the amenities of the Porto village at just 2 km and only 10 minutes to the railway station of Chiusi- Chianciano Terme and A1 Autostrada. Conveniently located halfway between Rome and Florence, one can easily take day excursions into all the famous historical sites within Tuscany and Umbria.

Podere Macchione is an exceptionally fine example of Umbrian farmhouse architecture at its most enchanting.  Originating in 1777, its unique and ancient features have been carefully and lovingly restored to its original character. The soft pink brick is typical of this area, where they were baked and worked with great artistry, evidenced by the beautiful nearby churches and houses. The outstanding feature of this rambling farmhouse is the lovely restored arched loggia where one can relax on a beautiful sunny day. The superb views of the city and the lake are spectacular at sunset!

On the border of Tuscany and Umbria, it is set in the pretty, peaceful countryside which lies between Lago Trasimeno in Umbria, and the Renaissance cities of Cortona and Montepulciano in Tuscany. The nearest village is close at 3 miles, and the resort of Castiglione del Lago on the lake is just 8 miles by car.  With its many restaurants and shops featuring Umbrian specialties of pici pasta, wild boar salami, truffles and wine and the sandy beach of the lake, Castiglione del Lago is an important and convenient resort and market town.  In just a half hour one can be in the hill town of Montepulciano enjoying its famous Vino Nobile wine or in the Etruscan town of Cortona, made famous by Frances Mayes' book, "Under the Tuscan Sun".  Wonderful day trips to the Renaissance cities of Siena and Florence are very convenient; enjoy the many treasures of the Renaissance and be home by sunset to relax with a glass of wine on the loggia!

The house is now divided into four very attractive apartments with all the graceful old features carefully preserved. Modern kitchen units of four ring hob and fridge are set in charming tiles and there are good quality showers and heating. Each apartment can sleep 4+1 with bedroom, living room, dining area, kitchen and bathroom.  Fully equipped with linens and cooking utensils, each apartment is completely self sufficient. Free internet Wi-Fi in all accommodations.
